Artist Profile

Katharine Smith-Warren
Water media paintings from Mexico, Colorado and Vietnam 2005-7

I received a MA in Art from Hunter College in NYC and have worked as an art advisor for 30 years. I developed the Kaiser Permanente collection, the collection at Sherman & Howard and other locations. I have also served as an art advisor on public sculpture projects including Dancers by Jonathan Borofsky at the DCPA, Donald Lipski's Horse and Chair at the Central Branch, Denver Public Library, Kenneth Snelson's Soft Landing at 17th and Lawrence Street and Vito Acconci's Dirt Wall at the Arvada Center.

Now it is my turn, and though I previously worked in oil, acrylic, printmaking and other media, I am enchanted, frustrated and engaged in exploring transparent water color. I love the sense of light and air which seems particularly well suited to my interest in nature and the environment.

My recent teachers are: Sandra Kaplan, Joellyn Duesberry, Barbara Froula and Mollie Favour, all from Art Students League of Denver classes and workshops.

My inspirations are the watercolors of Cézanne, John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer and Edward Hopper.
