Frequently Asked Questions
There are frequently asked questions, and then there are some questions some people just hate to ask! Here are some of both.

Salon Etiquette

What if I'm not happy with my hair after a service?
If you're not happy, we're not happy.  Please call and speak with our management. Kathryn will find a solution. That’s her job.

Should I tip an assistant ... such as the person who shampoos my hair?
Gratuity for the staff assistants is never expected.  However, doing so is always appreciated, especially if you feel the service was stellar.  I mean let's face it.  Sometimes that little scalp massage is the best part of the day.

I want to switch stylists, but gah!  I'm afraid it will be awkward.  What should I do?
Get it out of your mind that there's some Aniston/Jolie-esqe drama involved in switching stylists.  There are no hard feelings, ever.  You'll survive this maneuver and so will she.  People do it all the time!  Sometimes you just need a fresh perspective.

If you want to work with someone new, we encourage you to jump chairs in our salon and continue your relationship with Grand.  Feel free to "shop around" and work with all of us until you find the best fit!  (If you're completely freaking out about it, give us a call.  We'll talk you down from the ledge, then tell you when you can schedule an appointment for minimum run-ins until you get comfortable.)
You should also feel free to pick and choose if, say, you'd like to see one stylist for a cut and another for color.  Give us a call and we'll make it happen.

Do you like it or hate it when I bring in a photo?
We like it.  A clear, color photo can really help us to understand and achieve the look you're aiming for.

Can I bring my dog to the salon with me?
Grand is a place where people go to relax, unwind, and de-stress.  It's also full of motion, as clients come and go and stylists/assistants move to and fro throughout the room.  That said, we love dogs and we love it when they visit.  So, if your dog is mellow, friendly and relatively stationary, you are welcome to bring him or her along.  If not, please be considerate of our guests and workers and leave your dog at home.

Can my child hang out in the salon during my appointment?
Of course!

My child is home sick from school ... can he/she accompany me to my appointment?
This is a no-win situation!  We ask, out of consideration for our other guests, that children who are sick stay home.  If this means you have to stay home too, we will work hard to accommodate your rescheduled appointment quickly and at a time that's best for you.

Services & Products

How long should I wait to wash my hair after color treatment?
Wait 24 hours, and always use products prescribed by your stylist... there's no guarantee on your color without a professional product.

Does it matter if I use professional salon products vs. store-bought products?
We don't recommend using over-the-counter products to care for your hair after salon services. Why spend a pretty penny on your hair to just ruin it with bad products?  We've chosen our product lines for very specific reasons and have faith in their quality when they are purchased from a reputable distributor like yours truly.

Does Grand offer extensions?
We don't.  But we know lots about them, so please call us or ask your stylist if you have questions or would like a referral. Other stuff we don't offer: tattoos, bikini waxes, gluing Swarovski crystals to any body parts.

Is it safe to color your hair while you're pregnant?
We're not physicians, just incredibly talented beauty purveyors. You should consult a physician if you have concerns about hair color during pregnancy.  This urban legend has largely been dispelled over the years, but we're not the final word on this issue — your doctor should be.

Holy $#!%, why is my hair falling out!?
Hair loss in women can result from several factors, including stress, post-childbirth, low thyroid, poor nutrition, some prescription drugs, and some birth control or hormone pills.  If you're noticing hair loss, ask yourself whether you've experienced a major change in diet, hormones or lifestyle lately.  Talk to your doctor if you can't pinpoint the culprit.

Would a perm give me that beachy/wavy/sultry look?
No, no and no.
